16.07.10Tate & Lyle announces the full commissioning of the first European Polydextrose line
Tate & Lyle announces it has fully commissioned its new STA-LITE® Polydextrose line in Koog, the Netherlands. The new facility, which is the first of its kind in Europe, was built in response to the increasing demand for functional food & feed ingredients.
With only 1 kcal/gram, STA-LITE® Polydextrose is a premium, low calorie bulking agent used to provide body and texture in reduced calorie, no added sugar and/or high fibre foods. Polydextrose is also a soluble fibre with prebiotic properties that is very well tolerated in humans, has a low glycemic response, is clean tasting and easy to use. The ingredient is available in liquid and powder form.
Thanks to these beneficial properties there are also possibilities for STA-LITE® Polydextrose to be used in feed and pet food. Wendy Jacobs, product manager Animal Nutrition, says:’ The research for the application of Polydextrose into pet food is ongoing, but the first trial results look promising. The humanisation of pets leads to the usage of similar products in food and pet food. The presence of fibre in pet food is important for a good digestion and Polydextrose being a soluble fibre can contribute to that.’
